Our focus is music.

We think that music is the purest form of art, because it can hit you directly, without any rationalization. We think of music not as an industry but as a form of art and culture, that therefore must be free for everyone (then, if a musician's worthy, one should support him, not his label).
We want to spread the word about bands and musicians that see music as an art more than a chore. People that try to innovate or that simply put their heart in what they do.

First of all, we suggest our followers to sign in to last.fm to find out more bands similar to the ones they already listen to.

Second point: we don't think of genre categorization as an absolute. It's useful (and we use it) to give an idea, but, especially if the music is not one-sided and monodirectional, as good music should be, it's just an approximation and it's not meant to represent the whole of somebody's artistic production. For the same reason, we think that it's stupid to hate a whole genre a priori, but we believe that every artist worth of this name works his own way and should be judged individually.

Third, if anyone has a band or a musician that he wants us to create a link about, just contact us through the /ask or the /request page.

Alex’s dumb 2011 list

Another year gone. I’ve listened to lots and lots of different music throughout the year, yet I didn’t really keep up with all the new releases (shame on me, I know): there are a couple of albums I still need to check out.

But I think I can safely say 2011 has been a great year for music, we have seen many creative artists and bands entering the musical scene or leaving it (some forever, some not).

Here’s a rough list of what are my 10 favorite albums of the year (in alphabetical order):

- Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto | summvs
- Aucan | Black Rainbow
- Cave In | White Silence (even if I only listened properly to this two days ago. It’s amazing, though, a wonderful return from a great band)
- Collapse Under The Empire | Shoulders & Giants
- Devin Townsend Project | Deconstruction & Ghost (even if not perfect, damn ambitious)
- Lento | Icon
- Loscil | Coast / Range / Arc
- Mogwai | Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will
- Steven Wilson | Grace For Drowning
- Ulver | Wars Of The Roses

[More than] Honorable mentions:
A Winged Victory For The Sullen, Blackfield, Boris, Explosions In The Sky, Industries Of The Blind, Letlive, One Dimensional Man, Opeth, Radiohead (not enough staying power to become a favorite in my opinion), Spaces, Tesseract, The War On Drugs, Thot, Thrice, Vessels.

And that is all for 2011. At least for the albums I didn’t miss (still need to check out Mastodon, Fucked Up, Junius, Bon Iver and lots of other big names, shame on me). Thanks for the attention and love you’ve given us, wish you folks an amazing, crushing, fantastic, cuddlesome 2012 both in music and in real life (even if the two are tangled up together)!
